The Inspiring Futures Foundation (IFF) had the privilege of supporting six outstanding industry drillers from the New Zealand Drillers Federation to attend the 2023 NZDF Drill Down Conference in Auckland. Our grant provided these trainee drillers with flights, accommodation, transfers, and registration to the conference.
Iain Haycock, Chief Executive of McMillan Drilling and a Trustee of IFF, highlighted the invaluable experiences the drillers gained during the event.
“Drillers had the opportunity to see the latest drilling technology, listen to keynote speakers, and mix with industry practitioners, including experienced life members.
“After meeting the drillers at the event, it was clear they were well-deserving candidates and thankful for the support given to attend. It was great to see because this is what the Inspiring Futures Fund was intended for!”
Johannes Venter, one of the drillers from Drillforce NZ Ltd, said it was a great learning experience.
“I appreciated the opportunity to hear advice from successful people in the drilling industry and learn about their vision for the drilling sector’s future.
“We got to work with people that have the same technical mindset as us, and achieved good results. It was great engaging with the suppliers at the trade stands too and seeing new ideas and technology, making jobs faster and easier.
“Going forward, I want to do some things differently - I want to set high standards in the workplace and encourage new people in the industry to keep learning to improve their skills. You’re never too old to learn.”
